19th Century Cane-Backed Settee
England, Victorian Period

An elegant and beautifully restored Victorian two-seater settee, combining refined craftsmanship with timeless design. Featuring a delicately proportioned frame and a distinctive double-panel caned back, this charming piece offers both comfort and decorative appeal, making it equally suited to traditional and contemporary interiors.

The shaped top rail and gently curving open arms are crafted in richly toned hardwood, with the front supports incorporating finely turned detailing that complements the period aesthetic. The two-part cane backrest introduces a lightness to the design while providing attractive texture and visual interest.

The generously proportioned seat has been newly upholstered in luxurious dark green velvet, finished with matching green braiding, creating a sophisticated contrast against the warm timber frame. The upholstery has been executed to a high standard, ensuring both comfort and durability.

Below the seat, the settee is enriched by an exceptionally decorative apron featuring carved and pierced scrollwork, supported by turned legs united by a central stretcher, reflecting the quality craftsmanship typical of fine Victorian furniture.

The piece has been expertly restored by Anthony Beech ACR, ensuring it remains in excellent structural condition while preserving its original character and elegance.

Versatile in both style and scale, it would make a striking addition to a hallway, bedroom, sitting room, dressing room, or reception area.

Presented in excellent structural condition following professional restoration. The cane panels are in good order, and the newly upholstered seat provides both comfort and a refined appearance. Minor age-related wear to the timber is consistent with its period and enhances its authentic character.
