George III Mahogany Circular Tilt-Top Table

A fine and elegant George III mahogany circular tilt-top occasional table, dating from the late eighteenth century and displaying the restrained proportions and refined craftsmanship characteristic of the period.

The table features a well-figured circular two-plank top, beautifully patinated through centuries of use, which tilts vertically via its original mechanism and secures beneath with the original brass catch. This practical design allowed the table to be easily stored when not in use, making it a popular and versatile feature in Georgian interiors.

The top is supported by a well-turned baluster pedestal, richly modelled with finely executed ring turnings, terminating in a robust tripod base with elegant swept cabriole legs. The balanced proportions and understated silhouette reflect the enduring appeal of classic Georgian furniture design, while the warm mahogany timber has developed a rich colour and mellow surface over time.

Presented in lovely, sturdy condition, the table retains excellent functionality and would serve equally well as a lamp table, centre table, or occasional table within both period and contemporary settings.
