Characteristics
Large Mid-18th Century Oak Dresser Base
England, circa 1750–1770
A handsome and generously proportioned mid-eighteenth-century oak dresser base of classic Georgian form, displaying excellent colour and a rich, well-developed patina acquired through centuries of careful use.
The moulded rectangular top sits above a configuration of three long drawers, each retaining attractive brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons. Below, a finely shaped scalloped apron provides an elegant decorative element, while the dresser stands on slender tapering front legs terminating in traditional pad feet, a characteristic feature of quality Georgian furniture of the period.
Constructed in solid oak, the piece exhibits particularly attractive grain patterns across the drawer fronts and top, enhanced by a warm, mellow finish that highlights the timber's natural beauty. Its clean lines and restrained ornamentation exemplify the balance and proportion associated with mid-Georgian craftsmanship.
Equally suited as a serving piece, console table, hall table or statement storage piece, this dresser base offers both practicality and timeless decorative appeal.
Very good antique condition, with attractive age-related wear consistent with period and use
