From the Ghosts of Gone Birds Portfolio, 2011
Screenprint in colours, 2011, on Somerset 300gsm paper, signed and dated in pencil, inscribed ‘A/P’ (an artist’s proof aside from the edition of 125), from the portfolio Ghosts of Gone Birds, printed and published by Jealous, London, the full sheet, with a deckle edge, in excellent condition
A beautifully understated screenprint by the acclaimed British contemporary artist Lucy McLauchlan, created in 2011 for the celebrated Ghosts of Gone Birds project. Inspired by the extinct Huia of New Zealand, the work combines elegant simplicity with a powerful sense of loss, reflecting the portfolio's wider environmental message.
McLauchlan's composition reduces the bird to a series of fluid, organic forms rendered in soft monochrome tones, balanced beneath a luminous circular disc suggestive of a sun, moon or symbolic halo. The artist's distinctive visual language, characterised by graceful line work and minimalist abstraction, creates an image that is both contemplative and strikingly modern.
The restrained palette and spacious composition allow the work to resonate quietly, inviting reflection on absence, memory and the fragility of the natural world. Printed on Somerset 300gsm paper and published by Jealous, London, this artist's proof is an excellent example of McLauchlan's refined graphic style.
Presented in a contemporary black frame, the print is ready to hang and would complement both modern and traditional interiors.
