Characteristics

Large Blue Flambé Stoneware Vase
20th Century

An elegant and striking 20th century stoneware vase, finished in a beautiful traditional flambé glaze that graduates from deep aubergine tones at the rim through vibrant cobalt to a soft powder blue body. The flowing variation of colour, characteristic of high-fired flambé glazes, gives each example its own unique appearance.

The vase is of classic baluster form, with a tall, gently flaring neck rising from a generous rounded body, creating a refined and well-balanced silhouette. The lustrous glaze enhances the contours of the form, with subtle tonal shifts and depth that catch the light beautifully.

Inspired by the celebrated Chinese flambé glazes of the Qing dynasty and later embraced by 20th century studio and decorative ceramics, this piece offers a timeless aesthetic that complements both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Impressive in scale and elegant in proportion, it makes an ideal statement vase, whether displayed alone or filled with tall branches or seasonal arrangements.

Presented in very good vintage condition with light age-related wear consistent with careful use. The glaze remains vibrant and displays beautifully throughout.
