The Reunion Night Heron
By Jessica Albarn (Contemporary British Artist)
From the Ghosts of Gone Birds Portfolio, 2011

Screenprint, 2011, on Somerset Satin 300gsm paper, signed in pencil, inscribed ‘A/P’ (an artist’s proof aside from the edition of 125), from the portfolio Ghosts of Gone Birds, printed and published by Jealous, London, the full sheet, with a deckle edge, in excellent condition

A beautifully understated and contemplative screenprint by contemporary British artist Jessica Albarn, created in 2011 as part of the celebrated Ghosts of Gone Birds portfolio. Depicting the extinct Reunion Night Heron perched upon the skeletal remains of a tree, the composition combines delicate draughtsmanship with a profound sense of absence and quiet reflection.

Executed with remarkable restraint, the work employs fine linear detail and expansive areas of untouched paper to evoke both fragility and memory. The solitary bird appears almost suspended in space, while the sparse tree form suggests a landscape fading from existence. This minimalist approach creates a powerful emotional resonance, encouraging reflection on extinction, loss and humanity's relationship with the natural world.

Part of the acclaimed conservation-focused project Ghosts of Gone Birds, the print exemplifies Albarn's sensitive and poetic visual language. The monochrome palette and subtle composition lend the work a timeless quality, allowing the viewer's attention to focus on the haunting presence of the vanished species.

Printed on Somerset Satin 300gsm paper and published by Jealous, London, this artist's proof is presented in a contemporary black frame and remains in excellent condition.
