Late 19th Century George II Style Wall Mirror

A charming and decorative late 19th century George II style wall mirror, inspired by the elegant designs of the mid-18th century and beautifully executed in richly coloured mahogany with gilt embellishments. Combining refined proportions with classical ornamentation, this attractive mirror would make a wonderful addition to both period and contemporary interiors.

The rectangular mirror plate is enclosed within a moulded frame and bordered by delicate gilt slip detailing, which provides a subtle contrast against the warm tones of the mahogany.

The frame is crowned by an exquisitely carved and gilded Ho-Ho bird crest, a motif closely associated with the celebrated designs of Thomas Chippendale and highly prized in Georgian decorative arts. Gracefully scrolled ears frame the crest, while the lower apron is centred with an elegant carved shell motif, another classic feature of Georgian-inspired furniture and mirrors.

Its balanced proportions and understated decoration make it exceptionally versatile, equally at home in a hallway, drawing room, bedroom, bathroom, cloakroom, or dressing area.

Presented in very good antique condition with light age-related wear consistent with its period. The frame remains structurally sound, and the mirror plate displays well with pleasing character.
