Characteristics

Collector of Antiques
After Lawson Wood (1878–1957)

A humorous and engaging colour print after the celebrated 1916 illustration by Lawson Wood, one of Britain's most popular illustrators of the early twentieth century. Titled "Collector of Antiques", the scene depicts an eccentric collector carefully inspecting a seemingly discarded object amid a pile of household refuse, while the satirical caption below reads:

"Collector of antiques will be pleased to examine private collections at any time with view to purchase."

Wood's keen eye for character and gentle social humour is evident throughout the composition. The figure's earnest concentration contrasts amusingly with his surroundings, creating a light-hearted commentary on the enthusiasm of collectors and the sometimes-unexpected places where treasures may be found.

Executed in soft, attractive colours and reproduced from the original illustration, the print retains all the charm and wit that made Lawson Wood's work so widely admired. Presented in a tasteful wooden frame with a complementary green mount and glazing, it is ready for display.
