A vibrant and expressive giclée print by acclaimed British artist Billy Childish, created in 2011 as part of the celebrated Ghosts of Gone Birds portfolio. Depicting the extinct Reunion Owl perched amongst twisting branches and foliage, the work combines Childish's distinctive painterly style with a powerful reflection on extinction and remembrance.

Rendered in rich blues, greens and earthy tones, the composition is characterised by energetic line work and expressive colour. The owl's striking yellow eyes emerge from a tapestry of swirling branches and foliage, creating a compelling focal point within the densely patterned landscape. Childish's bold and intuitive approach imbues the work with both vitality and mystery, transforming the lost species into a haunting yet captivating presence.

The Reunion Owl, native to Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean, became extinct following human settlement of the island. Through its vivid colour and expressive handling, the print evokes both the beauty of the natural world and the fragility of species vulnerable to environmental change.

Produced for the influential Ghosts of Gone Birds project, which brought together leading contemporary artists to commemorate extinct bird species, this artist's proof was printed and published by Jealous, London. Presented in a contemporary black frame, the work remains in excellent condition.
