FURNITURE REVIVAL
We look for good quality antique, vintage, second hand furniture in need of a little TLC. Using traditional restoration techniques, each piece is gently given a new lease of life.
We prize the character and individuality of old furniture; the idea of a life already well-lived for tens if not hundreds of years, which brings with it a quality assurance that it can continue to serve a happy purpose long into the future.
We have a keen appreciation for the relationship between old and new, how antique furniture can be repaired using modern techniques and materials to sit very happily within contemporary interiors and remind us that having functioned for 50, 100, 200 years, it can withstand many more years if well preserved, without the need to replace with new.
PRINTS & WORKS ON PAPER
Summerfield & Scott Original Prints and Decorative Works on Paper are sourced from a variety of periods, artistic styles and genres which, like our furniture, can be used across a wide range of interior styles and settings. We focus on both fine art prints – original works released by an artist in a limited edition – and decorative works on paper, often salvaged from old books and collections.
This work is led by Charlie, who previously spent ten years as a Specialist at Christie’s, London. His area of expertise was Original Prints and Multiples with a 500 year range from Old Masters like Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt and Piranesi to Modern and Contemporary masters such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Banksy and Bridget Riley.
SUSTAINABILITY
We want to reduce the environmental impact of supplying beautiful, enduring furniture through a continual cycle of restoration.
We believe there is no reason why well-made furniture cannot follow a circular economy.
We want to reduce the reliance on furniture which is environmentally demanding, energy intensive and ethically questionable, not to mention of short lifespan, which currently dominates our high
streets.
ABOUT US
Summerfield and Scott was established in 2021 by Charlie and Flora Scott, and is based in Northamptonshire.
Charlie was previously at Christie’s for over a decade, specialising in Prints, before completing an MBA in 2021 which culminated in a thesis: The Green Interior – Reusing Furniture for a Sustainable Future. Whilst at Christie's he collaborated with Fine Furniture and Interiors departments, often curating the old and new together. Charlie is responsible for coordinating and carrying out much of our refurbishment and repairs.
Finer restoration work is advised and often undertaken by Anthony Beech, ACR, and his team. Anthony has over twenty five years’ experience in furniture conservation, and is accredited by both the British Antique Furniture Restorers Association (BAFRA) and the Institute for Conservation (ICON).
