The work was the first substantial monograph devoted to the trogon family and formed part of Gould’s important series of nineteenth-century ornithological publications.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eThe plate depicts a male and female \u003ci\u003eTrogon aurantius\u003c\/i\u003e, described by the German naturalist Johann Baptist von Spix, shown perched amongst foliage.
